Well, it has been an interesting week to say the least.

The extension of the SQARP Accreditation deadline did not sit well with the majority of our members, some were very thankful. Some, when they heard about the extension called I-CAR to see if they could put off their hands on welding training!

There are lots of opinions on this but when I spoke with Don Morgan, the Minister Responsible for SGI, he explained that it was done out of concern for the shops that for various reasons could not or did not have the time or resources to get the job done sooner, Covid was also a factor. Thank you to all of you that wrote to express your concerns, it shows SGI and the government that you are engaged with the trade.

I would rather see them error on the side of compassion than for other reasons so I think we just need to move on.

We should hear a response from SGI this week in regards to our rate review discussions and I am hopeful that we will have some positive news for you all.

In addition SAAR will be meeting with the Crown and Central Agencies Caucus Policy Committee on Wednesday this week. This is a first for me. Essentially we will meet with a group of primarily rural MLA’s to discuss the impact of the new SQARP accreditation and what, if anything the government can do to help the private sector body shops make the transition to this new reality. I will keep you posted on this as well.

It’s Not About the DTC’s!

Registrations have been steadily coming in for Mike Anderson and Jake Rodenroth’s online training webinar on March 10th from 6 pm till 8 pm. This event is for SAAR members and our associates in BC and Manitoba so it will be directed to the government insurance market. Your membership is all that is required as SAAR is picking up the cost of this event. You can now register online at Eventbrite here.

Are you thinking about succession planning for your business? At some point in your career this is a topic that you will have to consider. When I did my succession planning I started 5 years in advance of when I wanted to segue from the business. Take my advice, you should do the same and plan for an orderly transition to new ownership sooner rather than later.
